The earthquake in Haiti has displaced hundreds of thousands of people who now live huddled together under tarps and tents. With streetlights installed as part of peace-building efforts uprooted and the electricity grid broken down, there has been a rise in reports of rape and other violent attacks in the dark, crowded camps.
EarthSpark is working with The Clinton Global Initiative, The Haitian Ministry of Women's Affirs, Partners in Health, AIDG, KONPAY and other community and relief organizations to distribute thousands of solar lamps to women and families in areas affected by the earthquake. Thus far, we have distributed 3,000 of these lights.
You can help the women of Port-au-Prince and other affected areas by supplying them with a clean and reliable source of light and power. Seventy percent of your gift will fund the purchase of solar lamps, while the remaining thirty percent will go toward EarthSpark’s ongoing clean energy capacity building activities in Haiti, efforts that will help facilitate Haiti’s post-disaster recovery and reconstruction.
